A September Wedding | South Farm Hertfordshire

The Farm House at South Farm wedding venue in Hertfordshire

The Farm House | South Farm Hertfordshire

There’s something rather special about South Farm — maybe it’s the charming yellow farmhouse, the free-roaming pigs, or the way the evening light hits the gardens just right. As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing several weddings here, and every single one has been a little bit magical (The occasional rain — this is England, after all). Whether it’s the rustic barns or the romantic courtyard, South Farm is a stunning wedding venue and I look forward to working there every time!

Preparations & Prosecco…

Yvonne and Michael are the kind of couple who make photographing weddings an absolute breeze. Having already met them over video calls and during their engagement photo session, it genuinely felt like attending the wedding of friends. Their South Farm wedding in Hertfordshire was calm, relaxed, and full of joy from the very start. With the bride and groom getting ready just metres apart, it was easy to move between them and capture those intimate, in-between moments of excitement and anticipation. The highlight of the morning was an impromptu “first look” between Yvonne and her dad — his face lit up the second he saw his daughter in her wedding dress. As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer, I never tire of moments like these. My background as a nurse helps me connect with people, read emotions, and anticipate those fleeting, heartfelt interactions that make every wedding unique.

The “I Do’s”

Yvonne had her heart set on an outdoor wedding ceremony at South Farm, and despite the unpredictable British weather, she wasn’t ready to give up on the dream. The forecast was looking doubtful — one of those classic “will it, won’t it” days — but the South Farm team were incredible. They kept a close eye on the weather, reassured the couple, and had both the outdoor and indoor ceremony spaces ready to go. As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of weather dramas, but Yvonne followed her heart and decided to go for it. We made it all the way to the signing of the register before the heavens opened and guests scattered for shelter beneath the trees. True to form, South Farm had thought of everything — umbrellas appeared as if by magic, and the laughter that followed made for some of my favourite photos of the day. In fact, the shot of the guest with the inside-out umbrella might just be one of my all-time favourites… and I’ve photographed a lot of weddings!

From Drizzle to Dream Light – Only at South Farm

It rained, yes. Did it ruin the day? Absolutely not. As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer, I’m used to adapting to all sorts of weather, and a bit of rain never stops me from creating beautiful, personality-filled portraits. Yvonne and Michael were rewarded later in the day with the most stunning golden hour — the kind that makes you forget it ever poured. We grabbed a couple of glasses of prosecco (naturally) and made the most of the evening light, wandering over to see the animals. It’s one of the most magical parts of a South Farm wedding — there’s so much variety and charm that portraits always feel fun and relaxed. Yvonne and Michael embraced every moment, rain and all, which helped me capture photos that truly reflect the joy of their day. Don’t stress about the dress — just live in the moment.

Speeches, Sentiment & Cake

After cocktail hour, the wedding party was expertly led (and kept dry) as they made their way to the Tudor Barn — South Farm’s gorgeous, rustic space that’s perfect for a wedding breakfast. Having eaten at South Farm several times myself, I can confirm the food is every bit as delicious as it looks. Yvonne and Michael chose to have their speeches before the meal, which is an order I personally love. It keeps the tables looking beautiful, shirts tucked in, and ties firmly fastened — there’s plenty of time later for a more “lived-in” look (always a sign of a good time). The speeches were perfectly timed, full of sentiment and genuinely funny anecdotes. In a brilliant twist on tradition, they cut their cake after the meal so it could be served as dessert — genius, if you ask me.

Dancing, Drag & Good Times

The evening celebrations at South Farm did not disappoint. South Farm’s resident wedding DJ, Gary, kept the dance floor full all night, and local drag act Magenta Slipperz gave groom Michael the surprise of his life by crashing the evening reception — a brilliant idea from bride Yvonne that went down an absolute treat. I know I say this about many parts of a wedding day (probably because I love weddings in general), but the evening reception really is one of my favourites. South Farm’s Horse Barn is the perfect setting to dance the night away — rustic, fun, and full of atmosphere. I had the best time photographing Yvonne and Michael’s South Farm wedding, and I can’t wait to be back as a Hertfordshire wedding photographer next year.
